Apr 21, 2012 | JR's Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Feb 10, 2012 | Connie's Ric Rac Philadelphia Pennsylvania US |
Feb 9, 2012 | Bailey's Bar & Grille Levittown Pennsylvania |
Our first show of the year was to help our good friend State Rep Tina Davis with the fundraising kickoff of her campaign for another term of honest government - The joint was packed and me and the Gypsy Quartet played a "mostly rock 'n roll" set over a myriad of politico schmoozing and yelps of patriotically induced glee. The set list: |
Dec 3, 2011 | Cookies Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
The final show of a great 2011 for Tony & The Gypsys was a total blast with gifts for all in a packed Cookies Bar. Congrats to our contest winners Frank Bruzio and Walt Neibauer, and to all who made song recommendations to the band - See you next year for more good times. The set list: |
Nov 25, 2011 | Roxy & Dukes Roadhouse Dunellen New Jersey USA |
Last night me and The Gypsys played Roxy & Dukes Roadhouse in Dunellen North Jersey - just off the Perth Amboy exit of the NJ turnpike. Gotta tell you, without a doubt the best bar/club I've ever played. Words cannot describe the look and incredible vibe of this place. Congratulations to Jim Parks and his wonderful staff - You guys are operating an icon in the making, see you next year! The set list: |
Nov 12, 2011 | Birdie's Cafe Westminster Maryland USA |
Westminster is a beautiful little town outside of Baltimore, and the Gypsy trio had the pleasure of playing a wonderful little cafe called Birdie's - The Saturday evening crowd was transient, but several folks hung-out for one or both of our sets. We hope to visit this great spot again in the near future. The set list: |
Nov 5, 2011 | The Greene Turtle Salisbury Maryland USA |
A great night at The Greene Turtle under interesting circumstances. Joe took ill the day of the show so we were faced with the challenge of picking up the slack left by his absence. Well, The Gypsys delivered with Johnny providing the lion's share of the soloing with Bill and Steph chipping in here and there. Two really great sets with a couple of new songs making their debut. The setlist: |
Oct 22, 2011 | Mid City Caffe Washington District of Columbia USA |
Sep 24, 2011 | Cookies Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Sep 17, 2011 | Common Grounds Salisbury Maryland USA |
Another pleasant and extremely fun night at Tri Townsend's Common Grounds Coffee House. What friendly and supportive friends we've met at both of our visits to this great venue. We'll always look forward to playing Common Grounds. The set list: |
Sep 9, 2011 | Fries Mill Pavillions Turnersville New Jersey |
Aug 26, 2011 | Tin Angel Philadelphia Pennsylvania US |
Opening for our good friends EVER/AFTER, and it couldn't have a much better experience. The sound was excellent, the crowd was incredibly receptive (we made several new friends) and both bands played with great energy. I hope we can do it again sometime so more of our friends get the chance to experience the magical vibe that oozes out of every crevice of that wonderful venue. The set list: |
Jul 20, 2011 | World Cafe Live Philadelphia Pennsylvania US |
The WORLD CAFE LIVE was everything we had hope. The staff was incredibly hospitable and the sound was totally top notch (thanks, Rob). Our good friends MARK EVANS/JOHN DENNIS, along with THE THOMAS CHRISTOPHER BAND were excellent in chilling things as the 100 degree temperatures did little to deter our wonderful friends who didn't let us down. Thank you for another great night of encouragement, support and for being there for us at this important show. We'll be going back in the fall for a big weekend date - Stay tuned ... The set list: |
Jul 9, 2011 | Ken McCoy's Pennsylvania USA |
Well, talk about an incredible evening under the stars. Ken & Tara McCoy threw an unbelievable "Living Room Concert", filling their amphitheater like back yard with a group of about 50 wonderfully friendly and receptive friends and family that hung with us all night. We met so many new friends that we look forward to seeing in the very near future - You guys are the best! The set list: |
Jun 25, 2011 | JR's Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Strangetude! No need to get into details, but a heavy aura of "I'm not your f'ing boyfriend" swirled around my head most of the night, what a delightful experience! - The set list: |
Jun 20, 2011 | Ken's Cabaret Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
A pleasure playing for the talented and attentive folks associated with Ken's Cabaret - Sadly this was their last event of the year - I'll publicize this a bit more next time as I believe many of our friends would really enjoy the various acts (musicians, writers, magicians, actors) that participate at these shows - My first solo show in years turned into a duet with Gypsy keyboarder John Merlino. The set list: |
Jun 17, 2011 | The Pennant East Bellmawr New Jersey US |
A late night for the Gypsys as our set started sometime after 1 am - Anyway, we thank those dedicated friends new and old for stinking it out - Thanks for your kind words and support - I'm sure we will be seeing you again in the near future at The Pennant East - The set list: |
Jun 4, 2011 | Common Grounds Salisbury, Maryland USA |
The Gypsys took to the road (heading due south to Salisbury, Maryland) to continue our eternal quest to unearth true music lovers, and by God, we found some. The staff and patrons of the excellent Common Grounds Coffee House were receptive, kind, attentive and very appreciative of our music and performance. We now have a new stop for our never-ending tour. Thanks to all of our new friends for supporting us and voicing your very kind words about our songs. It was truly a pleasure to play for you! We hope to see you again soon. The set list: |
May 21, 2011 | Van Blunk's Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA |
I'm not alone when I say that the 5th Living Room concert at Van Blunk's was another rousing success. Born back in 2004, this show also marked the 4th anniversary of live exploits for Joe, Steph and I. Of course, we have since added keyboardist Johnny Merlino (who has performed at the last two Living Room events at Van Blunk's), Jim Drnec (drums) and Bill Saltzer (bass) to the fold. These shows give our friends who support us all year long a chance to experience (our) live music from a whole different perspective in the intimate and comfortable living room setting of a city row home - A unique situation for the performer and the listener to say the least. We thank our gracious host, Joe Van Blunk, and each and everyone of our friends who attended and made us feel so creatively fulfilled with their kind words and sincere compliments - Let's do it again next year! The set list: |
Apr 23, 2011 | Cin-M-Art Space 43 New York, New York USA |
New York was a great experience for the Gypsys. After drinks at Biddy Early's, the great little Irish pub that houses the Cin-M-Art Space 43 at its basement level, and features great grub, rugby on the tube, beer pong in the back room and the beautiful melodious poetry of Irish brogue yelps abounding, we played an inspired and passionate performance for the sparse early evening crowd. The sound man and club manager really liked our songs, and the boss told me after the show that he was from Texas and particularly related to our song "Suzie Lone Star Hero" - He drew a comparison to the line in "Suzie", "I met Suzie on a parking lot, running from a man she shot", by waxing poetic about the time he greeted a stranger who came calling at the door of his Texas home with a drawn rifle - "Hello sir, how can I help you?" - I handed him a copy of our new album and told him it was a real pleasure playing his club - He promised to listen it this summer while vacationing at his place in the Catskills. Check please! The set list: |
Apr 9, 2011 | JR's Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Nothing quite like opening for the Dead Pirates - The Heavy MeNtal Quartet was ready to do anything, and we pretty much did. The Set List: |
Apr 8, 2011 | The North Star Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Another fun night at the North Star - Plenty of great songs and passionate performances, and a good crowd of music lovers braving the rain and cold to support local original music - Thanks to Devolver, Mark Evans & Reggie Wu, Thomas Christopher & Real for joining our show - playing their asses off - and making it a wonderful success. The set list: |
Apr 4, 2011 | The Note West Chester Pennsylvania US |
Our first experience at The Note in West Chester and we just loved it! Opening for Gene Loves Jezabel, we only had the opportunity to do a half hour set. But the excellent sound system and the thrill of opening for a national act pushed us to one of our finest performances (so we are told) - We can't wait to go back to The Note for a weekend show - Perhaps you will join us - The set list: |

Mar 21, 2011 | Ken's Cabaret Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Mar 14, 2011 | Stogie Joe's Tavern Philadelphia Pennsylvania U.S |
Did we really run from Downey's Open Mic over to Stogie Joe's just in time to hit the stage before a packed house? Yes we did! What a treat to arrive to a smoking crowd still craving more rock 'n roll. Thanks to Joe D'Orio for holding the last spot for us - "Wish we could have saw you and the others play" The setlist: |
Mar 14, 2011 | Downey's Irish Pub Philadelphia Pennsylvania US |
Our first appearance at this rapidly growing Open Mic Night - The set list: |
Nov 6, 2010 | Second St Irish Society Phila Pennsylvania US |
Wow! I want to send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended our "album release party" at the Second Street Irish Society last Saturday night, making it our most successful visit to date. What more could we have asked for? The place was packed (another Two Street "sell-out") with real live music lovers that enthusiastically participated throughout the entire show. I hope we played some of your favorites songs, and I'm thrilled and humbled that so many folks commented on how much they really liked the new songs. Thank again from our hearts! |
Oct 16, 2010 | Cookies Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania US |
The light attendance was already pre-determined by the Phillie/Giant playoff game, but we appreciate the support of the loyal friends that came out for the show anyway. We also thank everyone for hanging-out and enjoying the show despite the disappointing results of the game. So for my depressed brethren Phillie fans, a comforting thought from a baseball snob. Real fans of baseball and the Phil's are a bit down, but certainly not in the state of shock being experienced by the neophytes whose yearly visit to the baseball buffet line starts at the dessert table. A word to the unwise: Ignore the useless media chatter and forget all of the "expert" analysis. The only thing a true baseball guru knows is that the game is a beautiful contradiction of what everyone thinks they've figured out. Oh, there are several things you should understand and watch for, but you have to experience the "day-to-day" to discover those elusive but obvious cells of this fascinating game. The set list: |

Jun 5, 2010 | Van Blunk's Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Thanks to our host and all of our wonderful friends for making our 4th "Living Room Concert" at Van Blunk's a smashing success. For all of the positive comments that I received regarding the experience of seeing a concert in the intimate setting of a city row home, I must admit that it may have been more of a blast for us. We're already talking about doing this again in the fall. The set list: |
May 15, 2010 | North Star Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Well, what can we say - Just an amazing and responsive group of new friends that packed the North Star and made us feel so appreciated - Near 150 folks making this our largest North Star show to date - Thanks to "Louis James and the Cuzin' Nicks", "The Formerly Divided" and "Langshaw" for joining our show - playing their asses off - and making it a wonderful success. The set list: |
May 12, 2010 | The Adobe Cafe Philadelphia Pennsylvania U.S |
May 8, 2010 | Orbit Gallery philadelphia Pennsylvania U.S |
We returned to the great Manayunk outdoors yesterday for the first time since May 2008. The 5 pm set had the wind kicking-up a steady diet of leaves, pollen and other assorted airborne items into our eyes and throats. That aside, and the resultant coughing spells during and between songs, Steph and I represented the true spirit of HeavymeNtalism with a nice long show. Thanks to those folks at the outdoor cafes, and those hanging out the doors of their shops who applauded regularly. The set list: |
May 3, 2010 | Stogie Joe's Tavern Philadelphia Pennsylvania U.S |
Again, the Heavy MeNtal Gypsy Duo joined the Stogie Joe's crowd with a "open mic" set that ran along side both the Phillies and Flyers games - The crowd twisted their collective necks back and forth to watch both games and us. The set list: |
Apr 23, 2010 | JR's Bar Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA |
Well, I'd be lying if I didn't say that the inaugural show by "The Heavy MeNtal Gypsy Piano Trio" was an unequivocal success - Featuring Johnny Merlino's piano and organ treatments on many of the songs did indeed give them a fresh new feel. Thanks to Johnny Pompo for inviting us to play at his show! The set list: |
Apr 14, 2010 | The Adobe Cafe Philadelphia Pennsylvania U.S |
Apr 5, 2010 | Stogie Joe's Tavern Philadelphia Pennsylvania U.S |
Well, it turned out to be the Heavy MeNtal Gypsy Duo as Steph and I dropped into Stogie Joe's for a quick 4 song "open mic" set. An energetic crowd filled the bar and were very supportive as we were joined by our friend and guitar ace, Mike Cottrill, for an adventurous version of "Black Cloud". Thanks again to Joe DiOrio for the invite. The "tiny" set list: |

At the end of the evening, we modestly accepted accolades as the winners of this fun event that hopefully becomes a permanent part of the festival. The "short" setlist: |
